Place A
This was an event and exhibition organised with the purpose of showing some seriously incredible ways in which people in Tottenham and around London are using artistic and creative means to address social issues head-on and affect real change. The event also had the purpose of forming a community launch-pad with which to begin collaborating in the local area to help contribute to a strengthening of inter-generational social bonds in Tottenham.
My production partner on this project was Actor and Director Invi Brenna to whom I owe a huge thanks.
We heard from:
Artist Geraldine Crimmins, who spoke about her experience in prison and living on the street for a number of years before developing a successful career as an artist with the support of Cafe Art, an organisation using art to help the homeless population gain stability.
Legal investigative death penalty activist Chris Chang, who told us how his photography plays a key part in cases he builds to advocate for the lives of individuals facing the death penalty across the globe.
Tatjana Hoffman, founder of TIH Models, a modelling agency which helps forge opportunities in the modelling world for people who have experienced homelessness.
As well as the talks was live art and performance, which included:
Spoken word poet, rapper, and actor Tapiwa Mugweni performed beautifully for us. Tapi’s art addresses themes of racial and social injustice and speaks out about global politics with cutting precision and finesse enough to cut through to hearts and minds in any situation.
Music from DJ Xera Vera
Lady Garden Theatre Company provided an immersive piece which brought audience members face-to-face with their own assumptions about women and projections onto female bodies, through evolving characterisations of Shakespeare’s heroines.
Live painting from visual artists Mireia Tramunt, Ellen Antico, and Kristain Borst
The event also launched an exhibition which remained on site for two months and included art from:
